About
Kathy
In addition to providing valuable personal safety information, Kathy feels a sense of duty to establish the age old whistle as an essential tool for everyone's personal safety arsenal. Fondly known as "Whistle Woman", Kathy is easily recognized with a whistle in hand and ready to demonstrate the effectiveness of this simple gadget for alerting others for help. As an adult, living in the Midwest, Kathy studied the martial art of Shorin Ryu karate for many years. It certainly helped release the frustrations that built up from that corporate job as she practiced her punches and strikes on a battered kick bag. It was while studying martial arts that Kathy developed a passion and became an advocate for women's personal safety. After marrying her
martial arts colleague who she trained with and fell hopelessly in love,
Kathy left the brittle cold winter temperatures and thirsting mosquitoes
and headed to the mountains of Colorado. Kathy, her husband, nature
photographer Rick Hobbs, and their two dogs now enjoy the pleasures
of living in the high altitude and dry climate of a small mountain community.
When Kathy and Rick built their Colorado rocky mountain home, they decided to include a personal dojo so they could continue as practitioners in their shared interest of martial arts. This re-ignited the spark for Kathy's interest in personal safety. As a Safety Ambassador for the National Safety Council, Kathy hopes you will personally benefit from the abundance of personal safety prevention tips offered on this website.
